"The Facility" (A game by yours truly)

Postby Berick » Wed Oct 07, 2009 1:00 am

As I consider games of all kinds to be art, I proudly present: "The Facility" (click on the "click here" link at the bottom next to "Save file to your PC:")

It is a top-down action/horror shooter (think DOOM-ish), where you are a guy trapped in a facility filled with... things. Can you escape "The Facility"? NOTE: This game is best played alone. In the dark. With the sound turned up.

I am immensely proud of this game. Even to this day, I still have a blast playing it. I really wanted to do more with it, but I lost the source code in a computer crash.

Fortunately, I did include a really easy to use, powerful level editor (with tutorial). So the game has unlimited re-playability as-is. I have considered creating and bundling an additional map-pack for the game, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. If you have the desire to assist with that, by all means let me know! For that matter, if you create [i]any[i] level, feel free to post it in here. I'd love to try it!

Interestingly enough, this was the last game I worked on, as it was this game that started my quest to develop a true AI.

Here's some screenshots to wet your whistle:

In game, fighting some things.

Level editing. Opening that door would be bad.

I hope you have as much fun playing it, as I did making it :D

EDIT: I realized that nowhere in the documentation does it say that pressing F1 in the level editor brings up the level editor help window. Just FYI.

Thanks to Grasshopper's BRILLIANCE, I was able to successfully decompile the original .exe and have retrieved the source code!

What does that mean? I can now do all of the things I was wanting to do originally! :D

Now let's see where I left off 3 years ago... :ugeek: *Codes furiously*
